More than $61 million in prizemoney will again be on offer in Victorian greyhound racing in 2026-27, with Saturday twilight meetings at Cranbourne to be conducted at Level 2 prizemoney when racing returns to Victoria’s only tri-code racing hub later this year.
To accommodate this investment while maintaining overall industry prizemoney investment, the monthly Shepparton Level 3 meeting currently conducted at Level 2 stakes will revert to standard Level 3 prizemoney from September 2026. The final Shepparton Level 3 meeting to be run at Level 2 stakes will be held on Thursday 6 August 2026.
The elevated prizemoney arrangement at Shepparton was introduced in 2014 following the official closure of the Wangaratta track, to provide additional support to participants in northern Victoria.
Since that time, the racing calendar, prizemoney structure and racing opportunities available across the state have evolved significantly. The introduction of feature events such as the Northern Districts Cup and Matchmaker series has also strengthened Shepparton’s place in the Victorian racing program.
With a number of important investment priorities across the industry, GRV has taken the decision to align all Level 3 meetings across Victoria with standard Level 3 stakes.
The reprioritisation of prizemoney will also support:
- Victoria hosting the Greyhound Clubs Australia National Sprint, Distance and Straight Track Finals in August;
- recently announced increases to Group race prizemoney to meet Greyhound Clubs Australia minimum standards; and
- maintaining strong base prizemoney levels across the broader racing program.
GRV will continue to keep participants informed as planning progresses, with further updates on Cranbourne’s return date and racing schedule to be provided in due course.
