End of an era as Team Dailly hands over the lead

A new chapter is set to begin for one of greyhound racing’s most respected kennels, with Team Dailly to undergo a major change following Saturday night’s Easter Egg series.

After more than three decades at the top of the sport, Tom and Andrea Dailly will step away from training, handing the reins to Andrea’s daughter Korie Heinrich and her partner Josh Formosa.

The move marks the end of an era for the Dailly name and the beginning of an exciting new generation.

“We are getting older now and have done the dogs for so many years – we just want to retire,” Tom Dailly said.

“We’re going to hook up the caravan and head around Australia.

“It’s been a lot of work. I’ll miss the dogs, but I won’t miss the workload.”

Few kennels in Australian greyhound racing have matched the sustained success of Team Dailly, with a legacy built on consistency and professionalism.

Reflecting on a career spanning more than 30 years, Tom admitted it was difficult to single out a standout moment, but one name inevitably rose to the top.

Fernando Bale and Andrea Dailly.

“We’ve had a lot of good dogs over the years, but Fernando Bale was the best we’ve ever had,” he said.

“He was a superstar, which probably overshadowed a lot of other very good dogs we’ve trained.”

The baton now passes to Heinrich and Formosa, who have already proven themselves as a formidable training partnership.

The duo claimed the 2024 Million Dollar Chase with Blue Kermaro and added another major success last week, winning the Group 2 Launching Pad with Repeat The Same.

With the foundations laid and momentum already building, the next chapter of the Dailly kennel looks to be in very safe hands.
