Colac Kid Claims the Group 3 Shootout at Sandown Park

Colac Kid has added another feature trophy to his growing resume storming home to win the Group 3 Shootout at Sandown Park on Friday night.

The Jason Sharp-trained chaser has been in irresistible form, securing his second Group race in the space of a month after claiming the Group 2 Cranbourne Cup in October.

Drawn against three of the fastest greyhounds to compete at Sandown Park over the past 12 months, Colac Kid entered the four-dog Shootout as the third elect but quickly proved he belonged at the top of the conversation.

Beginning cleanly and showing his trademark determination, the son of Fernando Bale took control when it mattered, stopping the clock in a slick 29.20 seconds, including a sharp 5.09 early split.

The win continues a breakout spring for Sharp’s kennel, with Colac Kid now emerging as one of Victoria’s most reliable big-race performers.

While the Shootout belonged to Colac Kid, all eyes were momentarily drawn to Topgun champion Slick Splits, who produced a dazzling display earlier in the night.

The dual Group 1 winner dominated the Melbourne Cup Prelude from start to finish, posting a best-of-the-night 29.10 seconds and reminding fans why he’s regarded as one of the country’s elite sprinters.

With confidence sky-high and form to match, Colac Kid now shapes as a major player heading into the Sportsbet Melbourne Cup series.
