The Great Chase semi-finals at The Meadows on Saturday night will offer a glimpse into the sports next round of stars. Among the emerging talent, several greyhounds stood out for their speed, composure throughout their career so far, and potential to make their mark on Victorian greyhound racing into the future.

Here are six names that could be doing special things on the track in the future.

CONTRADICTION – Ashlee Terry – GC SF 1
This youngster continues to impress with a mix of early pace and race smarts. He had no right to win his Great Chase heat at Ballarat after jumping midfield and finding trouble throughout. He is yet to win at The Meadows but has gone 30.27 seconds when running second there.

WEBLEC SNOOP – Jeff Britton – GC SF 1

Weblec Snoop brings country polish to the city. His turn of foot with a little bit of room is eye catching and his Great Chase Heat win at Warrnambool showcased that with a 25.27 second Best of the Night performance over the 450 metres. The Jeff Britton trained chaser has only been out of the money once in his nine-start career (three wins) and that was his first start – easily forgiven.

FLUFFY MASON – Jason Thompson – GC SF 2

A crowd favourite in the making, Fluffy Mason combines pure acceleration with a touch of theatre. Recently purchased by Jason Thompson’s camp, he won first up for them at Shepparton in a time of 25.04 seconds over the 450 metres. Prior to that, he won his maiden by 25 lengths at Warragul. Plenty of reasons to get excited!

WEBLEC BILLY – Jeff Britton – GC SF 3

Still learning his craft, Weblec Billy has improved noticeably with every start. The Jeff Britton trained chaser has now won his past three on the trot and brings city form into the mix which can’t be discounted.

OFF THE CHART – Peter Presutto GC SF 4

Winner of four from four – including the Highway 31 Maiden Final at Healesville. This dog could be anything. His Best of the day win over Fluffy Mason in the Great Chase Heat win at Shepparton last start tells you know he means business.

WHISKEY WHISKERS – Jeff Britton GC SF 4

Whiskey Whiskers has had an interrupted start to his career after a fall at Geelong in the Pink Diamond Maiden Sprinter, where he sustained a shoulder injury. After four months on the sidelines, he returned to win first-up at Geelong in 25.67 seconds – Best of the Night. His Great Chase heat win was big, and with a little room early, he looks to have the strength to do plenty more.
