Grand Final Celebrations to Continue at The Meadows

By George Farrugia.

As the sun sets on another AFL season, a large amount of attention will turn to an amazing racing season, including fabulous Group 1 events every month at The Meadows for the remainder of 2025.

A solid race meeting awaits on Saturday night, including what looks to be a wide-open Free For All over the 525-metre trip.

Despite being on a seven-race losing streak, Colac Kid looks to be a big chance to return to form this weekend, drawing box two in an easier top-grade race to recent weeks, where he has been beaten by superstars Flying Zulu and Explicit (twice).

The Jason Sharp-trained chaser has enough early speed to be prominent early and could be hard to hold out.

His main rivals include Paw Oswald, a greyhound who has built up an amazing amount of consistency, and Shima Time, a chaser with enough early speed to help utilise his favourable draw.

The opening race will have all eyes on first-up winner Gold Code who has landed in box one for this Maiden final after a highly impressive 30.02 heat win last week.

Gold Code wins his Sportsbet Maiden heat from box one in a time of 30.02 seconds.

Award-winning trainer Tom Dailly heads into the meeting with a team of 11 greyhounds, including youngster Kiwi Henry – a winner of two from three and a chaser with a bright future (one for the black book).

Race four is the staying event on the program, and it sees If Only engaged off box two, looking to end her run of five second-placed efforts on the trot, including a runner’s up effort in the Group-listed Ron Hawkswell two starts back.

The daughter of Hall of Fame sire Fernando Bale should once again find the front and this time prove hard to catch.

One of the other major hopes looks to be Flat Out Freddy in race 11. He started his career in fine fashion at The Meadows and coupled with his good early speed he looks very hard to catch off box two.
