Serious Surprises in the Healesville Cup Heats

Serial Sticker, Zipping Gryllis and Mile A Minute have all qualified for the 2025 Sportsbet Healesville Cup for the second year in a row.

Serial Sticker was the fastest qualifier, recording a slick 18.78-second victory.

“He is an absolute machine, this dog,” race caller James Van de Maat said post-race.

“That’s your Healesville Cup favourite for mine. He’s had one hand on this trophy for a long, long time and has been building to his peak at precisely the right time.”

Zipping Gryllis was enormous in his heat win, pushing through the field on multiple occasions to secure his place in the final.

Matchbox Beast caused an upset in heat two, defeating pre-race favourite Highly Abrasive in a personal-best 18.97-second performance for trainer Susan Richards.

Shorty Boy shocked punters with a $31 victory in his heat for David Geall, defeating My Name’s Eden in his first start up the straight.

Catch Some Rays caused the biggest boil over of the day when he defeated two-time National Straight Track Champion Mile A Minute in heat five.

Tarawi Therese made it four wins from four starts at Healesville, taking out her Cup heat over Short Straw Trev in testing, rainy conditions.

Zipping Gryllis (4) wins the opening Healesville Cup heat over Augustus Finch (3) in a time of 19.02 seconds.

Matchbox Beast (3) wins the second Healesville Cup heat over highly Abrasive (7) in a time of 18.73 seconds.
