Mile A Minute stormed home to claim today’s Victorian Straight Track Championship final at Healesville, edging out Serial Sticker by half a length. Both greyhounds booked their spot in the National final at The Q Straight in Queensland on Saturday August 30.
Serial Sticker exploded from the boxes and looked the winner halfway into the race. But as the race unfolded, Mile A Minute hit top gear and surged past in the final strides. He stopped the clock in a fast 18.99 – it was the 10th time he’s broken 19 seconds at Healesville.
“Serial Sticker burnt early and looked the winner halfway, then all of a sudden the red rug appeared. He is a straight track superstar, Mile A Minute,” said caller James Van de Maat after the race.
The reigning National Sprint Champion heads to Queensland with the chance to defend the crown he won last year at Murray Bridge. Back-to-back national titles are now firmly on the line.
Victoria will send a powerhouse team north. Alongside Mile A Minute and Serial Sticker in the Straight Track, Without A Trace and Ethanol Water will contest the National Distance, while Mepunga Reward, Flying Zulu and Tim Zoo round out the Sprint contingent.
