Dead Set Chance to Represent Victoria

Deadly Avenger has proven time and time again that he knows how to dominate on the interstate stage.

The powerhouse sprinter won the Group 1 Perth Cup in March, followed by a thrilling victory in the Sandgroper with Ladbrokes in April, before qualifying for the Group 1 Brisbane Cup – which was later abandoned due to track conditions.

Now, all eyes turn to The Meadows on Saturday night, where he’ll contest the Victorian heats of the National Sprint Series. Victory in both the heat and final would secure his place in the National Final in Queensland.

The last time fans saw Deadly Avenger was a month ago at Sandown Park, where he equalled his personal best of 29.07 seconds over 515 metres in a dominant display.

Deadly Avenger winning at Sandown last month in a slick 29.07 seconds over the 515m.

“The Sandown run replaced the Brisbane Cup hit-out,” co-trainer Joe Borg said.

“He wasn’t 100% going into the Brisbane heat and we were on the fence about sending him – so to run second and qualify exceeded our expectations. Since then, he’s been ticking along nicely at home.”

A win on Saturday will send Deadly Avenger through to the Victorian State Final, to be held next Thursday night at The Meadows as part of the National Showcase on Sky Racing.

With two key runs ahead, another trip to Queensland could soon be on the cards.

“I’m excited by the opportunity to represent Victoria with Deadly Avenger,” Borg said.

“He’s got a couple of important races to get through first – but it would be great to qualify and represent the state.”

Deadly Avenger will jump from box 3 in race 8 on Saturday night at The Meadows.
