Taw Galaxy’s Maturity Mission

A split-second decision could turn into Group 1 glory for Taw Galaxy and NSW trainer Andrew Rowe.

Just 48 hours after taking on a quality field at Wentworth Park last Thursday night, the rising star was en route to Victoria for a crack at the prestigious Group 1 Maturity Classic.

“He went 29.54 seconds over 520m – a pretty slick time in the middle of winter,” Rowe said.

“Watching him win like that, I knew he’d taken the next step. He’s a good young dog and a brilliant chaser.”

Taw Galaxy boasts a 50% winning strike rate from 12 starts, including a win in the Group 3 Magic Maiden Final at Wentworth Park.

The son of Wow and Wayang Angel is now in the hands of elite Victorian trainer Kel Greenough.

“He had a box-to-box trial at The Meadows on Monday. Kel said it was a good, fair trial, and I was pretty happy with that – it’s all new to him,” Rowe said.

Rowe, a lure driver by trade, keeps six greyhounds in work and prides himself on the tight-knit bond he shares with his team.

“It’s definitely tough letting them go – the dogs miss you too. But we’re using this as a steppingstone toward bigger races later in the year in Victoria.”

With one look at The Meadows now behind him, Taw Galaxy will line up in the 7th heat of the Maturity Classic on Saturday night.

“Box five won’t worry him. It’ll be his second go at the track, and based on the trial, he’ll be right in it.”

“He’s pretty special – a full-on chaser. He just needs to keep stepping up and adapting.”
