Racing fans are in for a treat on Saturday night at The Meadows with the highly anticipated return of Saquon and Explicit.
Unbeaten in his three career starts, Saquon steps out at The Meadows for the first time following six weeks on the sidelines.
“He’s had a bit of an injury and a slight cough,” trainer Brad Greenough said.
“He’s had limited work… but the lead-up trials have been nice.”
Saquon took the greyhound racing world by storm in May, becoming the fastest greyhound to break maiden status at Sandown Park with an eye-watering 29.05-second run over 515 metres.
Saquon was last seen at Sandown Park in late May.
Saturday night, Saquon jumps from box six in Race 2 at 7:02pm. Interestingly, all three of his career starts have come from middle boxes – twice from box six and once from box five – with his early speed compensating for the tricky draws.
“This is the hardest race he has been in because there is a lot of speed,” George Farrugia said on RSN Grey Areas.
Looking ahead, Greenough has his sights firmly set on the Group 1 Maturity Classic, with heats run next week at The Meadows. Saquon has been the punters’ favourite since markets opened for the prestigious age-restricted event.
