Azzopardi’s Assessment

Anthony Azzopardi takes us through what his team are up to as they are split between Victoria and Queensland.

He described the speed of his first contender in the Ballarat Cup heats as incredible and that greyhound is Roy Kent (race six, box seven).

“He’s got a tun of ability bit his only down fall is that he is hit or miss at the start and has then has to do it the hard way,” Azzopardi said.

Roy Kent is a winner of eight races from 17 starts, his last win as at Geelong in April where he found the lead early from box seven, winning in best of the night time (22.26 seconds) over the 400 metres.

Milton Cranberry lines up in heat six of the Ballarat Cup (race nine) and will jump from box five, he finds himself up against last start Harrison-Dawson winner Flying Zulu and hyped NSW chaser Gold Force.

“I think Aston Fantastic (4) will do us a few favours,” Azzopardi said.

“I give him a real sneaky chance.”

Milton Cranberry (8) runs down talented Wyong Dallas (5) in a best of the night 29.89 seconds at The Meadows.

Inconspicuous rounds out Azzopardi’s Ballarat Cup heat contenders with box one but finds himself up against one of the sport’s most in form chasers – Matt Loch.

“Really happy with box one but we have to be in front of Matt Loch to beat him.”

Inconspicuous (2) wins a heat of the Warrnambool Cup in a time of 24.79 seconds.

Azzopardi has taken over litter sisters, Gambella and Marrakesh for the Flying Amy which will be run at the recently opened Q2 Parklands.

The duo trialed on Thursday night. Gambella went 29.60 seconds (11.40 run home) and Marrakesh stopped the clock in 29.74 seconds – first look.

“I’m very happy with both of their trials.

Joey The Jet has been with Azzopardi since February. He bounced back to the winner’s circle at Bendigo last week only to pull up sore.

“Pleased to see him win at Bendigo but he injured his triangle in the run. He will be back in three to four weeks,” Azzopardi said.

Hotel Whisky One hasn’t been seen since his Horsham Cup heat victory in February, and it might not be long until we see him back on the track.

“Nearly ready to put back in work after a tear in his groin and triangle.”

Time has been called on Pass The Buck‘s career which saw him win 17 races from 33 starts. His talent always prominent, but a wrist injury prevented us from seeing his absolute peak.

“We have made the decision to retire him. There are few people wanting straws, but the main thing is he will be with me forever.”

Pass The Buck wins the Group 2 Warragul Cup from box three in a best of the night 25.49 seconds over the 460 metres.
