Tale of the tape | Sandown Cup Carnival Week 2

The Group 1 double of the Harrison-Dawson and Sapphire Crown finals headlines Week 2 of the Sandown Cup Carnival, which are very well complimented by heats of the Sportsbet Sandown Cup for the stayers.

It’s a full set of four heats for the Sandown Cup, the quality is good and on face value they’re very competitive.

The likes of defending champion Irish Millie, Raider’s Guide, Ethanol Water, Apilla and Ella’s Babe are just some of the big names within.

NSW’s Lady Wilson trialled over 595m last week (33.92 – 9.30, 23.27) in preparation for Cup heats

Many of the Harrison-Dawson and Sapphire Crown finalists absolutely lit up the sectionals in the Race Data last Thursday night.

Mepunga Reward ran home in an unfathomable 10.23, while Gambella wasn’t too far behind with 10.28. Dashing Slay was prominent throughout all sections, obviously – her time of 2.07 to the 20m mark intensifies the intimidation.

All-star sprinter Tim Zoo is favourite for the Harrison-Dawson while Dashing Slay heads the Sapphire Crown market.

The rest of the card carries a stack of interest too.

Did you catch the debut of Saquon last Monday? The fastest maiden Sandown Park has ever seen. He steps out for the second time in Race 1 with the eyes of the Australian greyhound public on him.

Race 10, a Free-For-All – Bagman headlines that and has drawn superbly in box 8.

And Race 12, a Grade 5 that features Topgun winner Excavation.

If you can’t make it to the track, sink into the couch with some refreshments and snacks because it’s going to be a magnificent night of greyhound racing.

Catch every bit of it with Nathan Rooney, Corey Smith and myself on Sky Racing Active and the Watchdog App from 6.15pm – download the apps from your respective App Store.
