South Australian youngster Dashing Slay made a huge statement last night, breaking the magical 29-second barrier (28.953) at Sandown Park in her semi-final of the Launching Pad.
She entered the series after breaking 30 seconds at Angle Park at just her 7th start, a feat only a handful of greyhounds have achieved – the likes of Wow She’s Fast and Aston Rupee. Despite that, she still shocked us with last night’s performance – only Flying Zulu (28.838) has gone faster this year.
Wyong Dallas was again faultless in his semi-final and extended his picket fence to five wins in-a-row. He set a fast time of 29.28, an identical time to that of his heat win the week prior.
The promising Marrakesh returned to the winners list for the first time this year when she took out the second semi-final. She began better than recent form and from the favourable inside draw made it a matter of process after that.
Elite Intention claimed the last of the semi-finals at long odds for the O’Neill family. He took full advantage of the room created on his inside and then kept punching to hold off Shima Stan late.
The winner and runner-up of each semi-final progress to the $220,000 Launching Pad final. See the box draw for next Thursday’s final below.
Earlier in the night three heats of the Runway (consolation series) were run. Just two lengths separated the winners of the three heats, Accredited the fastest of those in 29.43.
Next Thursday’s card will also be supported by the Launching Pad Consolation (made up of greyhounds 3rd and 4th in semi-finals) and the Group 3 Easter Gift.
