Abela: Elliott and Mackenna

Paul Abela unleased a son of Aston Rupee upon Sandown Park on Thursday night, stopping the clock in an explosive 29.22 in his first start at the track.

Elliott is the name, and by the sounds of it, winning will well and truly be the game for this greyhound into the future.

“He is one of the fastest pups I have had at this stage by trial time,” Paul Abela told Jason Adams and George Farrugia on RSN’s show with no name… yet.

As Adams pointed out, Elliott’s 12 length victory had a faster last 100m than Fred Rose and Palawa King last week.

“I’ve got a pretty big opinion of Elliot; just wish he was half a length faster to the first mark.”

Elliott heads back to Sandown Park on Monday for 6/7 heats.

Phoenix talk crept into discussion during the show, with Adams pointing out Abela’s name was missing from the Slot holder’s announcement.

With Mackenna one of the stars in Abela’s kennels, there was talk early doors that Abela, Darryl Thomas and Michelle Sultana would join forces and apply for a slot.

“We spoke about it, but Daryl had Rinsed The Lot, who is now with the Storm so we went our own ways,” Abela said.

Mackenna strained her back muscle and hasn’t been seen since her Best Of The Night 29.82 performance at The Meadows on August 3.

“She is back galloping and is all good,” Ablea said.

“We made the decision last night to keep her home for the big races in Melbourne (bypassing the Million Dollar Chase).

George Farrugia and Jason Adams tackle the biggest news in greyhound racing on RSN every Wednesday and Friday from 12pm. The show currently has no name, but that’s up to you! Tune in live, or catch up on your favourite podcast app.
