Pink Diamond hitting fever pitch

We’re in the thick of qualification for next Saturday’s Pink Diamond meeting at Shepparton which will carry over $560,000 in prize money and breeding bonuses.

Tonight at Geelong we’ll see a giant clash between last week’s Ballarat Cup winner Explicit and Morton. They’ll jump from the inside two boxes in Race 8 at 9.23pm.

They’re aiming to progress to the Pink Diamond Champion Sprinter final which in its short history has a stunning honour roll – Shima Shine, Ferdinand Boy and Transponder (who lines up in a Champion Sprinter heat today at Bendigo).

In last night’s Champion Sprinter heat at Ballarat provincial sprinting star Matt Loch returned to the winners list a week after running 4th in the Ballarat Cup.

Later on the card, the warrior Silver Brute won his 63rd race in a heat of the Veterans. Next Saturday’s final will be his 100th career start.

Monday’s public holiday will see a mammoth card of racing at Shepparton – for the first time in almost four years 13 races will be run at a race meeting in Victoria.

It’s the result of overwhelming nominations for both the Champion and Rookie Pink Diamond Distance Series’.

Sportsbet Sandown Cup finalist Drill Sergeant and last year’s Sandown Cup winner Korda are some of the notable names within the heats.

The meeting will kick off at the early time of 10.41am with five semi-finals of the Maiden Sprinter and Short Course to kick start the card.

All eyes will be on Zeus Thunderbolt in Race 4 who broke the elite ‘25’ second barrier in his heat last Monday.

All roads lead to Shepparton next Saturday June 15 for the Pink Diamond.

On the night – Win up to $1000 thanks to Sportsbet. Music by 2023 ‘The Voice’ contestant Shanae Watson. Gin, whiskey and vodka tastings thanks to 36SHORT. Plus half price food and beverage for all registered participants.
