‘Super mum’ in ultimate quest for Cranbourne Cup glory!

Popular Devon Meadows-based “Team Presutto” (Peter and Natalie) launches a three-pronged challenge in the $11,235 Group 2 Sportsbet Cranbourne Cup heats (515m) – to be held at Sandown Park due a track closure – on Thursday night.

The ‘Presutto push’ is led by the sport’s ‘super mum’ Idolize, along with litter brothers Exalted and Boomburst.

Idolize – greyhound racing’s ‘Australian Idol’ – will contest Heat 6 (Race 9, Box 8) at 9.53pm.

A winner of 24 races from 51 starts, Idolize is a four-time G1 finalist – including victory in the 2022 National Futurity and second placing in the 2022 Temlee. She also won the 2021 G2 Laurels Classic.

“I actually do think she’s come back as well as ever.”

Since returning to the racetrack in late July after whelping a litter (1 male and 2 females) by former superstar Shima Shine on February 5 this year, Idolize has notched five wins, three seconds and one third from 11 starts.

Last week, she claimed the Million Dollar Chase Consolation at Wentworth Park.

Idolize has won three from nine at SP, with a 29.38sec PB. And she looks well suited in the ‘pink’ trap, with three wins and three placings from seven starts. Franking that thinking is that she has six wins and two placings from eight starts exiting the ‘black’ trap (Box 7).

“I actually do think she’s come back as well as ever,” Peter Presutto said.

“She’s going every bit as good as she was and, in fact, is probably getting back to her best in terms of race fitness.

“She’s sound and wants to race; she loves the competition. It’s all starting to come together at the right time.”

Peter is the official trainer of Idolize, while Natalie has the training duties of Exalted and Boomburst.

Exalted is engaged in Heat 2 (Race 5, Box 3) at 8.22pm.

He’s won 11 races from 35 starts – including four of his past five – and boasts a 29.40sec PB. Last week, he came out running for a smart 29.62sec at SP.

“He fractured a scapula at The Meadows but since coming back, he’s been enormous,” Presutto said. “His sectionals have been elite.

“His run last Thursday night was very good. I expect him to lead and they’re going to have to run him down.”

Meanwhile, Boomburst lines up in Heat 3 (Race 6, Box 3) at 8.43pm.

He’s registered nine wins from 41 starts but hasn’t tasted success in 10 starts at SP. But he’s recently placed twice, clocking 29.50sec and 29.54sec.

“He tore a back muscle and had a bit of time off,” Presutto said. “He’s come back better but is not finishing off as well.

“He’s getting to the point where’s he’s feeling fitter, but he’s up against Baby Jaycee who has ‘drawn her box’ (Box 1).”

Idolize ($3.50) is on the second line of Sportsbet’s heat market behind recent G1 Adelaide Cup winner, Transponder ($2.90).

Meanwhile, Exalted is $4.50 in a very open heat and Boomburst is one of the outsiders at $13 in his heat.

A ‘magnificent seven’ heats, each carrying a $7000 first prize – also comprise sprinters the calibre of Make No Promise ($3.30) – Race 5, Box 7;  Baby Jaycee ($1.65) – Race 6, Box 1; Alpha Zulu ($2.50) – Race 7, Box 8; Launch Code ($2.70) – Race 8, Box 2; Big Energy ($2.70) – Race 10, Box 4.

Sportsbet’s ‘All In’ market for the Cranbourne Cup is topped by Alpha Zulu ($5.50) followed by Baby Jaycee ($6), Amron Boy ($7) and Launch Code ($9).

Pawnote: The Cranbourne Cup final, worth $55,000 to the winner, will be conducted at Sandown Park on October 26.
