After breaking through at Group level in the Silver Chief Final (525m) last Saturday night at The Meadows, Amron Boy will be aiming to secure an even bigger prize in the second edition of The Phoenix (525m) this Saturday night.

Amron Boy made a huge impression on debut when he prevailed by over 15 lengths at Sandown Park on February 20 and he has been one of this year’s most consistent greyhounds.

“I love dogs that have been racing week in, week out, they’re tough, and he (Amron Boy) will be that again.”

Group race victories may have eluded him up until last Saturday night, but performances in the Sportsbet Dream Chasers Festival have demonstrated why Amron Boy is considered one of Australia’s star greyhounds.

A highlight, excluding his 29.45sec Silver Chief victory, was his narrow defeat to the queen of Victorian greyhound racing – Wow She’s Fast – in the Sportsbet Showdown (515m) on Melbourne Cup night.

During the Silver Chief series, Amron Boy was one length off The Meadows 525-metre track record in both his heat, which he won by almost 12 lengths, and the $100,000 to-the-winner Group 1 final in a four-length triumph.

He now has the opportunity to pass $1.2 million in prizemoney if he is victorious in The Phoenix, where he is running for the Sports Entertainment Network (SEN).

Amron Boy was the seventh greyhound drawn out of the barrel for the box draw in the unique pick-your-own-box format for The Phoenix.

Co-trainer Jamie Ennis and form expert Troy Little (on behalf of SEN) selected Box 4 instead of Box 7.

“From out wide, I thought it was going to be a tough draw to get across Wow She’s Fast (in Box 6),” Jamie Ennis said when speaking to Molly Haines and Corey Smith on Sunday’s Thrill of the Chase.

“If he can get some sort of a clear run and only be four or five lengths off them up the back straight, we saw what he can do in the Silver Chief Final. He’ll be hard to beat.

“Obviously, he’s had that regular rotation of racing, and I think that’s going to hold him in good stead.

“I love dogs that have been racing week in, week out, they’re tough, and he’ll be that again.”

The husband-and-wife team of Jamie and Brooke Ennis have enjoyed terrific success in their careers most notably with My Bro Fabio (three Group 1 wins including 2015 Perth Cup), Barooga Brett (two Group 1 victories including 2019 Temlee) and Lady Toy (five-time Group 1 placegetter).
