How to spend $20 on the Horsham Cup Final

The Watchdog is tipping a ‘whirlwind’ win for Jason Thompson’s Typhoon Sammy (Box 8) in tonight’s $47,000 to-the-winner Group 2 Taylor’s Palace Hotel Horsham Cup Final.

Typhoon Sammy is the reigning Group 2 Traralgon Cup champion and he has won 25 races from 38 starts, including five of his past seven. He’s also the Bendigo 425m track record holder (23.28sec).

A $2.50 favourite in TAB’s market, Typhoon Sammy (27.22sec) was the slowest of the six heat winners last Friday but “deserves to be favourite”, according to the expert form analyst.

“He’s one of the best dogs in the land and has got that tremendous early speed. And he’s getting stronger!

“They got to him on the bend (in his heat), and he looked like he was under sufferance, but he managed to really kick on well.

“The dog’s going super and box eight is a big plus. Everything points to him.”

“Typhoon Sammy’s going super and box eight is a big plus. Everything points to him.”

The Watchdog believes the ‘outside division’ should dominate the race.

He identifies the Brooke Ennis-trained Old News ($4.60 chance), off the ‘red’ (Box 1), as a “big risk”.

“We all know that he likes to move wide, and he can take a few strides to get going. He may get buried back and he’s going to need a lot of things to go his way.

The Watchdog says fastest heat winner Boston Garden (26.90sec) was “probably the most impressive”.

“He showed tremendous acceleration once balanced and did step a lot better than he normally does.”

Trained by Jeff Britton, Boston Garden (Box 5) is $5.50 for the final.

In conclusion, The Watchdog reiterates the ‘outside division’ should dominate the race.

“Typhoon Sammy, if he does everything right at box rise, should be off and gone. This is really his race; he’s got the speed and should lead and they’re going to have to catch him.”
