In case you missed it

Form expert Dale Code has picked out a selection of runs from around Victoria that have caught the eye over the past fortnight.

#1 MEPUNGA RUBY (Box 8)
Breeding:
Mar ’19 Fernando Bale x Mepunga Rosie
Trainer: Jeff Britton, Anakie
Record: 14 starts 9-1-1
Comment: After a fast beginning she was turned sideways and lost significant ground when trying to cross over and lead. Spotting the leader a handy start mid-race, she went into overdrive and took over just before the home turn and powered away to a convincing victory by 8.25 lengths. Considering the ground she lost in the run, her winning time of 34.29sec makes this performance even more special.    Results

#2 CATCH THE THIEF (Box 8)
Breeding: May ’18 Aussie Infrared x Dundee Ally
Trainer: Jason Thompson, Pearcedale
Record: 54 starts 25-15-3
Comment: For pure time standard there have been a host of outstanding performances of late. Rebellious ran a ridiculous 25.24sec in his recent 460m Geelong win and Aussie Secret posted a scintillating 24.45sec in his 440m Sale victory. However, Catch The Thief, for mine, was the most brilliant of them all when he became only the second dog to ever break the 29 second barrier at Sale over 520m, coming within .02 secs of Shooting Star’s long-standing track record (28.97sec) with a mind-blowing 28.99sec win. Catch The Thief was drawn out wide on a bend start and, in the process, defeated Group 3 winner Kuro Kismet by almost 7 lengths. This was an exhibition of pure speed and strength.    Results

#3 PROPELLED (Box 5)
Breeding: Nov ’19 Black Magic Opal x Veetee Saharrah
Trainer: Karen Pitt, Pearcedale
Record: 3 starts 2-1-0
Comment: In just his second race start, a desperate attempt to cross to the inside rail soon after box rise saw this youngster find trouble and be shuffled out to last. Once balanced and with a clear passage in front of him, the aptly named sprinter sprouted wings along the inside rail to claim victory over the concluding stages. Just 21 months of age, he’s worth adding to your black book, as he’s one to follow, particularly when drawn inside.    Results

#4 SIR HARLEY (Box 1)
Breeding:
Nov ’19 Dundee Osprey x Jacqui Shoshone
Trainer: David Crawford, Pearcedale
Record: 7 starts 2-2-0
Comment: After a sold beginning was tightened for a run and shuffled back to last. Once balanced, he hooked to the outside and made up a tonne of ground to finish an eye-catching second. Another worth including in your black book, noting he’s ideally suited to a wide draw.    Results
