Fernando Cazz ruled out for RSN Sandown Cup

Fernando Cazz has been ruled out for the RSN Sandown Cup after she sustained an injury out of last Thursday’s run.

She led for a long way before fading at the tail end of the race.

“Unfortunately she’s injured ligaments around her hock,” said trainer Kayla Cottrell.

The Rookie Rebel winner was building on her staying career with her most notable effort a runner-up in the Association Cup. It’s uncertain how long she will be on the sidelines.

“It’s hard to put a timeline on when she could be back. We’ll assess it week-by-week – time will heal anything.”

She was rated a $12 chance with TAB to win next month’s RSN Sandown Cup.

Stanley Road is favourite to win the world’s premier stayers race and plans are being put together for his imminent trip to Melbourne. Zack Monelli is the next fancied and is also in line for a return to Melbourne after his win in the Galaxy at Cannington.

Budding stayer Aston Ulysses was impressive on his ‘700’ metre debut last Thursday and backs up this week for his second crack at the trip.

Heats of the RSN Sandown Cup will be run on Thursday May 20.
