Adonis’ ‘Trewly’ tough task

Aston Adonis is enjoying a career-best patch of form, but veteran trainer Dennis Trewin says he’s up against it in the $10,000 to-the-winner GRV Vic Bred Series (1-4 Wins) final (525m) at The Meadows on Saturday night.

With partner Tina Womann, Lara-based Trewin has scaled greyhound racing’s heights with the likes of Group 1 winners Trewly Special and Trew Millions, but it’s fair to say he doesn’t hold any lofty ambitions for Aston Adonis.

“He might be worth putting in exotics, but I reckon he’s got two chances of winning – Buckley’s and none,” Trewin offered candidly.

“His heat run wasn’t too bad behind Geally’s (Dave Geall’s) dog Fernando Mick.”

Raced by high profile owner Ray Borda, Aston Adonis has won just four of his 32 starts, however he’s been most effective over The Meadows 525m circuit, with three wins and nine minor placings from 18 starts.

Aston Adonis’ heat conqueror, Fernando Mick (Box 4), is TAB’s $2.20 favourite, while Aston Adonis (Box 3) is a $13 chance.

The final is Race 4 at 7.45pm.
