Shima Shine has taken the punters fancy in tonight’s Group 1 TAB Melbourne Cup heats at Sandown Park taking top rank in TAB’s All In market at $5.50.
The recent Group 1 TAB Topgun winner has drawn box three in the opening Melbourne Cup heat.
“These races are always hard, but we are happy with the draw,” Tom Dailly said.
Before the heats, Simon Told Helen was all the rage but a challenging heat and box four has seen him drift to $7 ($2 favourite to win his heat).
“Since the heats have been drawn, we have seen money come in five to one in favourite of Shima Shine,” TAB’s Trent Langskaill said.
“We are putting it down to the heats they have drawn.”
Tom Dailly said that even though he is happy with the box, Shima Shine can still be a bit hit or miss out of the boxes.
“I want to see Shima Shine in the first two or three heading into the first corner. It all depends on how he gets out.”
Shima Shine missed out on a rug in last year’s Melbourne Cup when he ran second to Campini. A victory in the Melbourne Cup heats tonight will land him even closer to the $435,000 first prize and his second Group 1 for the month.
Dailly also mentioned he liked the chances of Jax Bale in heat three (box six) of the Melbourne Cup.
“He is a dog who likes Sandown, and he had a good look on the track last week, so I think he is a bit of a chance to run some time.”
Staying talent, Sunset Bourbski is Team Dailly’s soul representative in the Bold Trease heats which will be run over the 715m.
“She needed a run between the Topgun Stayers and the Bold Trease heats, and although she isn’t suited to the middle distance where she raced in between, it was a good hit out for her,” Dailly said.
Sunset Bourbski has drawn box five in the final Bold Trease heat (race 11).
Despite significant market moves for the TAB Melbourne Cup, old timer Tornado Tears holds the biggest TAB bet placed on the meeting so far with one punter placing $6,000 on him at $1.90 to win his heat.
Torndao Tears opens the night’s racing in the Bold Trease heats jumping from box one at 6.49pm.
