The Melbourne Greyhound Racing Association (MGRA) sent out invitations to nominate for the exclusive Group 1 TAB Topgun & Topgun Stayers events to be held at The Meadows on Saturday night 7 November.
Connections who have received invitations to nominate now have until 12 noon on Thursday 22 October to lodge a nomination with GRV should they wish to be considered for a position in the final fields.
MGRA Chair Eddie Caruana noted it will be a tough year for the panel to select their top eight.
‘It’s been a particularly difficult year for everyone but the quality of racing has not dropped – if anything it’s stronger than ever.
There are a couple of greyhounds who look to clearly deserve a spot in the final fields but beyond that we are going to have a very tricky time selecting the remainder of the runners.
There is no doubt some very talented dogs are going to miss a spot.”
Connections of Golden Night (Troy Murray) have indicated their intention to accept their direct entry into the 525m Topgun which he secured thanks to his victory in the Group 1 Adelaide Cup at Angle Park on Friday night.
The Group 1 TAB Topguns carry first place prize money of $150,000 (525m) and $75,000 (725m) and have been won by some outstanding greyhounds over the years. This year is sure to be no different.
