‘Tears’ of joy

Victoria’s ‘special staying squadron’ made a clean sweep of the G3 Sydney Cup heats (720m) at Wentworth Park last night.

The Rob Britton-trained Here’s Tear’s ($3.70) clocked the fastest heat time defeating Vic counterpart Sunset Bourbski ($1.70F) by three and a half lengths in 42.16sec.

Here’s Tears has returned to the form which landed him the G1 Fanta Bale Super Stayers (725m) at The Meadows. He was also runner-up in the G1 Zoom Top and holds Sandown’s 715-metre track record (41.16sec).

And just over 20 minute later, Britton saluted again with Here’s Tears’ ageless older brother – five-time G1 winner – Tornado Tears ($1.50F) in 42.18sec.

Rockstar Beav ($5.20), trained by Andrea Dailly, also won a heat in 42.49sec. (She also prepares Sunset Bourbski.)

The dominance of the Vics is reflected in TAB’s fixed odds market for the G3 Sydney Cup final.

Sunset Bourbski is $3.00F, followed by Here’s Tears and Tornado Tears both at $3.50, and Rockstar Beav at $14.00.

Pawnote: Dailly took out last year’s Sydney Cup with Boom Down, who came from a near-impossible position to win.
