Flashback: Geelong Great Chase

The TAB Great Chase 2019 at Geelong Greyhound Racing Club saw 52 community group members and their carers get dressed up for a fun day out at the racecourse.

The magic was strong on the day, even Dazzling Dan the Magician was on hand with a sleeve full of tricks and a big hat to try some greyhound spells.

Top honours on the day went to Geelong’s Riverside Community House with $1,200 winnings for being randomly matched with some winners on the racetrack.

Riverside has been coming back to the Great Chase for a few years, with one of the carers, Mal stating: “The community experience on course is the best part for our guys, they get to catch up with old friends and have the opportunity to take part in an activity that others take for granted.”

“They’re delighted to catch up with friends from the other groups and love the social aspect of the day out at Geelong.”

Members of Estia Health were also in attendance last year, keen to extend their winning streak to three years. Sue from Estia said the best part about the day was “the enjoyment that the residents feel while on course. They love having a bet and remembering when they came to the greyhounds in previous years.”

Scope Manifold and Scope Shannon Park also had some tricks up their sleeves, taking home $600 and $200 respectively.

Although the TAB Great Chase 2020 community days are not going ahead due to the COVID-19 pandemic, rest assured that all of us at GRV are already planning for The Great Chase 2021 to more than make up for this year.

The TAB Great Chase is Victorian greyhound racing’s number one community event, distributing almost $650,000 to the disability sector since 2003.
