Lou’s Healesville Cup

Zambora Lou has continued his litter’s dominance over Victorian Country Cups with a win in today’s Group 3 TAB Healesville Cup (350m).

Litter brother Zambora Smokey won the Warrnambool Cup earlier this year.

The son of Country Cup king Zambora Brockie and Zambora Cross, showed talent and determination in his first group race victory when defeating a hot Healesville Cup field at the odds of $3.20.

“Races don’t often turn out how you think they will but this one did,” trainer Jason Thompson told James Van de Maat on GRV’s Facebook Live broadcast of the day.

“He had a bit of room early and when he’s in front, he’s always going to be hard to beat.”

“The seven (Paua Of Oscar) came late but over 350m here when you get on the fence it’s the place to be.”

Paua Of Oscar for Steven Bruce White and Anthony Azzopardi’s Aston Pilsner rounded out the minor placings in the 2020 Healesville Cup.

Zambora Lou has been a dominant figure on Victoria’s provincial circuit, having scored 13 of his 14 wins at country venues throughout his 23-start career.

“This dog has always shown a lot of ability. He can be a bit hot and cold but now he’s had 20-odd races he’s adjusted to racing really well and hopefully he can really go on with it.”
