Catch The Thief Speed Star bound

Catch The Thief is one of three greyhounds trialing over the 525m at The Meadows on Saturday evening in hope of qualifying for the Speed Star which will be run on Wednesday 16 September.

Fresh off the back of an impressive first look at Angle Park in preparation for October’s Group 1 Adelaide Cup last week, Matt Clark is confident his star chaser will be able to make it into the match race series.

Catch The Thief’s fastest winning time at The Meadows is 30.15sec recorded in February at start number six.

“He is a super trial dog,” trainer Matt Clark said.

“He went 17.60sec (BTB) before he went to Sydney, so trialing isn’t an issue for him.”

Catch The Thief will have to better Tiggerlong Tonks 29.82sec if he is to qualify for the Speed Star as the rankings currently stand.

Litter brother Playlist may also be looking at a Speed Star tilt if all goes well in a trial at Sale tomorrow.

“Playlist is coming back from a bit of an injury and if he pulls up well after his trial tomorrow then we will be looking at qualifying for the Speed Star also.”

Keep an eye on The Meadows Facebook page for trial times during Saturday’s meeting.
