Independence Day at The Meadows

Greyhound Racing Victoria has teamed with Sky Racing and the TAB to broadcast greyhound racing to the World.

The first meeting from The Meadows will be broadcast across the United States on an auspicious day for Americans, July 4, US Independence Day.

The Meadows race meet will feature a taster of the excitement felt by the whole Victorian greyhound racing industry around races being beamed to an American audience. The first race to be broadcast into the USA will be race five at 8:00pm, the aptly named ‘Greys in the USA’ race.

Bespoke race rugs and marketing collateral will be used to give the race a special flair for the broadcast into the USA on Independence Day.

GRV Chair Peita Duncan, who lived in America for many years, noted the significance of the races being broadcast on July 4 in the USA.

“We all know the importance of Independence Day to the American audience and the patriotic feeling that comes along with the day for the USA.

“Teaming those feelings up with how much we love our greyhounds and the thrills of them racing, joining the two together to make something special just seemed like a match made in heaven,” Ms Duncan said.

Ms Duncan announced on June 15 that our sport would be beamed into North America with a potential audience of millions of people.

“This initiative with Sky Racing and joint venture partner, the TAB, allows us to showcase our great athletes, trainers, racing and sport to the World,” Ms Duncan said.

“It also opens up a massive new wagering audience which will help us work through COVID-19, increase returns to our participants and position us for an exciting new future.”

Ms Duncan said the USA project is being completed in two phases. Initially, one Australian greyhound meeting a day with separate USA Tote pools is being beamed live to the USA with the intention being to then progress to co-mingling following regulatory approvals.

Make sure you tune in to The Meadows on Saturday, 4 July 2020 to enjoy the excitement of Victorian Greyhound Racing being broadcast in the USA.
