One savvy punter pulled off a betting bonanza with a $10,000 outlay on Ed Deeds ($4.20) at Warrnambool on Thursday.

But the bettor would have had high anxiety upon box rise as Ed Deeds was tardy to begin from Box 2 and last early before tracking wide to miss a shuffle up at the first turn. Consequently, he went to third position in the twinkling of an eye and powered home to win by one and a quarter lengths (replay below).

It was Ed Deeds’ fourth win from 16 starts, with the punter collecting $42,000.

Meanwhile, the person(s) who backed Grand Giveaway (Race 1) and Quid Pro Quo (Race 2) at Healesville the following day should be commended.
