SUNDAY SPECIAL – BRONSKI BEAT

The ‘Pursell boys’ should be to the fore at Sandown Park today.

Based in Lara (Vic), Brendan Pursell prepares Bronski Beat – The Watchdog’s ‘Bet of the Day’ in a Mixed 6/7 over 515 metres.

And his son Blake, who resides in Brighton (Tas), trains Twisted Reality – The Watchdog’s top pick in a Grade 5 (515m).

Named after an English synthpop trio which achieved success in the mid-1980s, Bronski Beat has been ‘out of tune’ at his past three starts, but it’s the first two starts of his career that still ring in the ears of the expert form analyst. He clocked a 29.86sec win on debut on September 8, and four days later followed up with a 30.06sec victory.

So, he’s no ‘Smalltown Boy’, and is expected to ‘Hit That Perfect Beat’.

Incidentally, Bronski Beat’s debut win was from box one, the same alley he occupies today.

Meanwhile, Twisted Reality has revealed his class in Tasmania, with three smart wins at Hobart and one win at both Launceston and Devonport.

Last Sunday, he produced a slashing 29.77sec trial over 515 metres at Sandown Park. He is expected to fire in his Victorian debut.

Check out Bronski Beat (box one) saluting in his racetrack debut early last month at Sandown Park:
