SUNDAY SPECIAL – SLIGHT OF HAND

One day you can be attempting to guide arguably the best canine stayer the sport has seen to yet another Group race victory, and then less than 24 hours later be lining up with a youngster hoping to break her maiden status.

Last night, Robert Britton was chasing a 10th black type win with Tornado Tears in the Group 3 Top Cat Video Cup (725m) at The Meadows. Unfortunately, the champion’s box six ‘hoodoo’ continued and he could only manage fifth behind She Will Bloom.

And tonight, he’ll rug Slight Of Hand in a Maiden heat (515m) at Sandown Park.

That’s the greyhound racing ‘twist of fate’ the Lara-based mentor is experiencing this weekend – and it wouldn’t be for the first time!

To further highlight how greyhound racing is a great leveller, Tornado Tears has won 29 races from 47 starts and amassed more than $770,000 in stakes. Slight Of Hand, with a princely $375 in prizemoney, is contesting her second start.

Slight Of Hand finished second on debut at Sandown Park last week, but her terrific early speed made an impression on expert form analyst The Watchdog. And that’s why she’s his top pickin tonight’s event.

Check out Slight Of Hand (box seven) finishing second to Repercussions (box one) – ironically prepared by Britton’s brother, Jeffrey – at Sandown Park last week:
