More than 150 people enjoyed the sunshine and attended the eighth Great Chase Community Day in Shepparton. People from across the northern region and as far Echuca headed out for a day at the greyhounds.

The group from PALS Inc were particularly excited with 32 people attending.

The community group assists people with a disability, the aged and disadvantaged, to access and participate in the community. They’ve been attending the Great Chase for more than 7 years and love coming back each year.

“It is a great opportunity for our clients to get out and be in the public and enjoy a day out at the races” Gary from PALS Inc said. “It is something that they don’t get to do, and it is just great for them.”

The group from Shepparton Access were back again for the 5th year are blown away with the event year after year. Wendy from Shepparton Access echoed the important role the Great Chase plays in her client’s everyday lives and the support it adds to the organisation.

“They love coming, the love socialising with others and they get a great deal of benefits from those activities.” Wendy said. “It has been a terrific day and thank you to everyone who puts it on, and we appreciate the support that it has given to our sector. We look forward to coming again next year.”

The big winners of the day were Rangeview Nursing taking out the top prize of $700. The group were ecstatic with the win and are currently undecided on what they will spend the money on.

“We are so excited by this fabulous community event. We have monthly meeting with our residents so we are going to put it to them as to what we will do with the money” Sandi from Rangeview Nursing Home said.

The Great Chase continues with the grand final at The Meadows on Wednesday 23 October.

The next community day will be held at Sandown Greyhound Racing Club on Sunday 22nd September.
