Wheels to motor in President’s Cup

Trainer Graham James is eagerly looking forward to tonight’s President’s Cup Final (485m) at Horsham with his speedster Got Some Wheels looking to make a name for himself.

Despite the scratchings of three quality contenders in tonight’s $15,000 to-the-winner final, the field still boasts enormous quality.

Got Some Wheels is second in betting at $3.10 after drawing Box 1 behind superstar Black Opium ($1.75), followed by Seal The Deal ($5.00) and dual Group 1 winner Deliver ($6.50).

Got Some Wheels has had an exciting career to date, having won 15 of his 28 starts. He is the former 485m track record holder at Horsham and two starts ago he clocked a scintillating win at The Meadows in 29.65sec.

“It’s a red hot race,” James said. “I’d like to think he can lead from the red box, but even if he settles second behind Black Opium I’d be pretty happy.”

“Black Opium is the obvious danger, but Seal The Deal is a fast dog, and Deliver is a fast dog, so Got Some Wheels will need a bit of luck.”

Got Some Wheels ran third in his heat, just three days after his cracking 29.65sec Meadows victory.

“I’m just glad he made it through to the final. He was always going to be a little bit jaded after putting so much effort into his win at The Meadows. He’s had a quiet week since his heat so hopefully he is at his best tonight,” James added.

Graham said his star is well suited to Horsham, despite the fact the track is five hours from his home in Woodleigh, near Lang Lang.

“He loves racing at Horsham. He’s got good early speed and he has a serious motor so the long straights there really suit him,” he said.

The President’s Cup will be run tonight at 5.45pm. All going well James will next target the Speed Star and then the Adelaide Cup with the son on Bekim Bale and Paua To Excite.

“He has had a lot of injury interruptions so we haven’t seen the best of him yet. He turned three in July, so he is right in his prime, and I reckon if I can get him match fit with a solid block of racing he might be able to win a group race one day.”
