The Bendigo Greyhound Racing Association is a pillar of the local community, with charity and community engagement events happening across the entire year.

The Bendigo leg of the TAB Great Chase is one event on the calendar that nearly 100 community group members did not miss in 2019.

Kalianna Specialist School has been coming to the Great Chase for many years and the staff and students wouldn’t miss it for the world.

Josh, from Kalianna school, has been attending with his students for upwards of 10 years, and said the Great Chase means so much to the kids.

“They get showbags to take home, and we use this as a bonding experience for our students and parents.”

“The group will defintely be attending the Grand Final at The Meadows on October 23 and will be out in full force to cheer on more greyhounds,” said Josh.

Vahland Complex staff member Geoff brought down 12 people to experience the thrill of the races once again.

“This is the sixth year we’ve attended the Great Chase. We come back for the community aspect of the days. We see past patients and residents there and get to catch up with them,” Geoff said.

“We will definitely be attending the Grand Final (at The Meadows) as well. We have been five of the last six years and its great.”

The group from Scope Weerona Avenue were the biggest winners of the day, walking away with $1,200.

Alannah, from Scope, said the money will go towards “social outings and community events for the clients.”
