Orson awesome in Dawson

Orson Allen ($2.10 Fav) claimed the second Group 1 of his career when taking out the $145,000 Harrison-Dawson (515m) tonight.

After scoring a narrow win in his heat over the fast-finishing Flynn in his heat, Orson Allen made it a one dog race in the final, leading all the way to win in 29.26sec after a slick first section of 5.06sec.

“Tonight he showed how good he is,” trainer Correy Grenfell said.

“We’re over the moon. He has bought us half a house, and it looks like he’s going to buy the other half. So it’s a thrill training the dog and hopefully he’s got a few more (big wins) in store.”

Orson Allen exited box 4 in both his heat and the final, and Grenfell reflecting on his superstar’s heat win eight nights earlier, a race dubbed the race of the year.

“For a moment in that race I thought Flynn had us, but he (Orson Allen) is a true professional and he just kicked and did what he had to do,” the Avalon trainer said.

The son of KC And All x Desalle Bale won tonight’s final by 1.79 lengths over Southern Ripple, followed by Dyna Unther and Flynn.

This was his 29th win from 56 starts, with the $100,000 first prize taking his career earnings up to $605,520.

Orson Allen has also won this year’s Group 1 Perth Cup, Group 2 Cranbourne Cup and Group 2 Horsham Cup.

Grenfell’s other star greyhound, Dyna Chancer also won a feature race on the night, taking our the the $15,000 to-the-winner TAB Cup Night Stayers (715m).
