Saturday night’s Group 1 Perth Cup boasts an outstanding field including four Victorian greyhounds.
Among them, two Australian Cup winners (Hecton Bale & Dyna Patty), an Australian Cup runner-up, plus the hottest greyhound sprinter going around in Orson Allen.
Orson Allen was simply magnificent. Fresh from his Horsham Cup win in track record time seven nights earlier, Correy Grenfell’s superstar looks primed to break his Group 1 duck.
His heat win in 29.32sec was half a length of Cannington’s 520m track record and five lengths faster than the next best heat winner.
The Perth Cup looks like Orson’s Allen’s best chance of breaking his Group 1 duck.
Speaking of hot greyhounds, champion Victorian stayer Tornado Tears ran the race of his life in heat of the Group 1 Galaxy, winning by 18 lengths and shaving more than six lengths off the 715m track record.
“He (Tornado Tears) has not only broken the track record, he has absolutely smashed it,” announced race caller Peter O’Neill.
The previous record of 41.66sec belonged to Neil Monelli.
