Sunshine North man warned off over animal welfare concerns

Greyhound Racing Victoria has warned off Denis Lyons of Sunshine North, under Greyhounds Australasia Rule 95 (1) following an investigation by the Greyhound Racing Integrity Unit (GRIU).

GRIU General Manager Shane Gillard said the investigation found Lyons, who was not a registered participant with GRV, offered to rehome greyhounds for a fee of $200 and then failed to do so.

Mr Gillard said Lyons made no effort to rehome greyhounds and in fact had dumped them at council pounds and lost dogs’ homes.

“As a result of this disgraceful behaviour, greyhounds have been unnecessarily euthanised,” Mr Gillard said.

“Lyons also falsely told registered participants that his business was approved by GRV which it is not.

“Having been warned off, Lyons can no longer have any involvement with the greyhound racing industry.

“Registered participants need to be aware of this.”

Mr Gillard said the GRIU investigation was ongoing and anyone with information should contact [email protected] or call the Racing Integrity Hotline: 1300 227 225.
