Big weekend ahead for Trainer of the Year

One week on from taking out Victoria’s highest training achievement– Victoria’s Trainer Of The Year, Anakie based trainer Andrea Dailly and her team have their eyes on three group races across two nights.

Tonight’s $67,000 Pet Panels Geelong Gold Cup kicks off proceedings for the Dailly kennel with their appropriately named Speed Star jumping from box four – a box he is yet to run unplaced from.

Speed Star clocked the fastest first split in the heats last Friday night (6.39sec) and the fourth fastest overall time.

“He is a very good beginner; I would say nine out of 10 times he would be leading and that is what he did in his heat on Friday night,” Andrea Dailly said.

“I wouldn’t say a win in the Geelong Cup is beyond him because with a bit of luck he can find the lead again but having said that the final is a lot classier than his heat.”

“He is a slower dog than Orson Allen and Dyna Hunter, but if he is out in front there is no telling what he can do.”

Dailly is no stranger to success in her local Geelong Gold Cup, having claimed the 2016 title with Shima Song – also from box four and in 2011 with Dyna Tron, Shima Song’s sire.

Local greyhound Orson Allen is the $2.25 TAB favourite heading into tonight’s $67,000 feature, while Speed Star opened up as a $15 fixed odds chance.

Tomorrow night at The Meadows Andrea Dailly has two contenders in the Group 1 invitational Topgun (525-metres) and one in the Group 2 Topgun Stayers (725-metres).

Dyna Patty is the the TAB $2.70 favourite after drawing box one, the same box she claimed the $100,000 to-the-winner Maturity Classic at The Meadows in July. The Maturity Classic win was her most recent victory.

Dailly’s second runner is Hecton Bale who is the reigning Australian Cup winner which is also run at The Meadows and one of the countries richest races.

Hecton Bale has drawn box eight in the invitational Topgun, the same box he won his Australian Cup from.

Rockstar Patriot will fly the flag for the Dailly Camp in the Group 2 Topgun Stayers, which will also be run at The Meadows tomorrow night.
