Time is now for Equilibrium

Exciting stayer Equilibrium has reached a pivotal point in his career ahead of tomorrow night’s handicap event over 725m at The Meadows.

Renowned for his slow starts and strong finishes, Equilibrium has won eight races from 24 starts including a string of six straight victories throughout July and August.

Trainer Ian Garland is banking on a strong showing from his greyhound in a bid to gain an invitation into the Topgun Stayers (725m) invitational at The Meadows on 27 October.

“It’s an important time in Equilibrium’s career,” Garland said. “He has shown a lot of promise but has never raced at group level before, and I’m hoping that the Topgun Stayers will kick-start his group racing career, but he has to get an invitation first.”

“Having good form over the 725m at The Meadows and being able to win there in good time is important to his chances of selection. He has raced once over the track and distance before and didn’t run a place, so I’m hoping he can win tomorrow night and post a fast time.”

Form analyst The Watchdog has Equilibrium as the $1.90 favourite from box six and having a vacant box (five) alongside him will only help his chances of victory.

“He (Equilibrium) has looked like a superstar at times throughout his career, particularly on the bigger country tracks which suit his style of racing because he can really wind up,” Garland said.

“I think he’s about a $2.80 chance tomorrow, with Billy’s Bake being the obvious danger. There’s no doubt that Billy’s Bake is the best performed greyhound in the race, and he loves to rail so he is really well drawn in box one.”

“However, it’s a handicap race, and Equilibrium has a two metres head start on Billy’s Bake, so I’m hoping he gets off to a good start and settles in the first three or four.”

Equilibrium will contest Race 1 tomorrow at 7.17pm.
