Werribee Cup this weekend

Coursing returns to Longwood on Sunday with events for greyhounds of all ages including the prestigious Noel Ryan Memorial Werribee Cup.

“The Werribee Club committee have seen fit to increase the stake money to $1,200 to the winner and $325 for the runner-up. Longwood will also host the JN Smith Memorial on Sunday, which will be supported by greyhounds that did not gain a start in the Werribee Cup,” said National Coursing Association of Victoria (NCAV) Secretary, Sue Delaney.

An additional drawcard on Sunday is the Slips to Boxes Challenge, which is open to 32 greyhounds (all ages) competing in one of four events, with the only criteria being that competitors must be Grade 5, 6 or 7 at Shepparton over 390m.

“The winners and runner-up from all four events (those that win two courses) will compete at Shepparton on 14 June for standard stake money, plus a trophy supplied and presented by the NCAV,” Sue added.

“It will be a great day of racing, and the Longwood committee also provides tasty home cooked meals along with friendly country hospitality.”

Nominations for Sunday’s coursing meeting at Longwood close on Thursday, 31 May at 8.30am with fasttrack.grv.org.au or via phone on 8329 1111.
