Jill kept in cotton wool ahead of Ladies Bracelet

Victorian trainer David Geall is hoping a restful week will have his superstar greyhound Up Hill Jill cherry ripe for Saturday night’s Group 3 Ladies Bracelet (520m) final at Wentworth Park.

Up Hill Jill was gallant in defeat last weekend when running 2nd in her heat after uncharacteristically missing the start ever so slightly before encountering plenty of interference in the run.

“I suspect she may have been a little bit jaded last week after travelling twice to the West for the heats and final of the Perth Cup, and then driving to Sydney last week,” Geall said of his dual Group 1 winner.

“It has been a big month of travelling so she hasn’t done any galloping this week. Hopefully she will be nice and fresh and ready to go on Saturday night.”

Drawn favourably in box 2, Up Hill Jill shares TAB favouritism with Miss Splendamiro at $2.80, just ahead of the exciting Ella Enchanted at $3.

Geall is expecting stiff competition from the NSW duo.

“Ella Enchanted is very young (25 months) but she was the fastest heat winner last week (in 29.48sec) and can really run, while Miss Splendamiro was the favourite in the Golden Easter Egg (won by Up Hill Jill), so it promises to be a great race,” he said.

The Ladies Bracelet is scheduled to run at 9.20pm on Saturday night with the winner to snare a $25,000 first prize.
