Fanta cracks a million!

Fanta Bale has surpassed $1 million in prize money in tonight’s Group 1 Bold Trease (515m) on a massive TAB Melbourne Cup night at Sandown Park.

In claiming her seventh Group 1, Fanta Bale snared a $100,000 first prize, taking her steer earnings up yo $1,094,170. “It’s a relief that she has finally made it,” said Tim Britton, son of trainer Robert Britton.

“When you’ve got a greyhound being referred to as a million dollar dog the expectations are pretty high. Some people just expect her to win every time she races, but at the end of the day she is a dog, and so it’s impossible win every time.”

“She has got such a huge fan base including a lot of people who aren’t normally involved in the sport, so she has been absolutely fantastic for greyhound racing.”

After setting just off the early pacesetter Petunia Monelli ($10,90), Fanta Bale ($2.00) found the lead mid-race causing the huge crowd to erupt.

The Paul Wheeler bred and owned greyhound won by three lengths over Packey Keeping ($69.50), with Ebby Ripper ($6.30) third.
