Britton Calling On Greek Gods in Nationals

Anakie trainer Jeff Britton believes Alpha Demeter is his best chance in Saturday night’s Victorian National Sprint heats (525m) at The Meadows.

Jumping from box two in the fifth heat, Alpha Demeter who’s name sake is a Greek goddess, finds herself up against Sandown track record holder Unlawful Entry (box four). The daughter of Cosmic Rumble and Queen Of Cyprus is one of the most experienced greyhounds in the race – having 41 starts for 12 wins and 12 minor placings.

“She is drawn close to the fence in box two and I hope she will begin well,” Jeff explained.

Out of the six heats on Saturday night, Jeff has a representative in four. Despite calling out Alpha Demeter as his best chance he also has confidence in Mepunga Fame – a winner of 10 races from 30 starts.

“Mepunga Fame has the ability to lead the race. She has been racing over the longer trip, which should see her finish the race with strength.”

Across the border in Western Australia, Jeff has high hopes for his former chaser Weblec Belle in the WA National Sprint heats at Cannington on Saturday night.

Weblec Belle (pictured) made the move interstate into the care of Chris Halse in April. Since her move she has only been out of the money on three occasion in 15 starts.

“I would like to see Weblec Belle do well in the WA heats and make it through to final in Adelaide. She has raced around Angle Park a few times for me, and I know she can handle the trip,” Jeff continued.

The daughter of Dyna Tron and Snow Excuse has a respectable record at Angle Park, recording two wins and three minor placings from six starts – including a win in the 2014 Group Three Brian Johnstone Memorial, a feature that saw Jeff prepare the first four place getters.
