PRESIDENT’S CUP: Fuelish to Fire on Massive Night at Horsham

Saturday evening greyhound racing heads to Horsham for a triple treat of feature races totalling almost $30,000 in prize money, including the $14,200 President’s Cup (Race 8).

Here is my rundown on each of the features.

FORMGUIDE

A cool $5,000 first place prize money is on offer here and I like the chances of  Allen Impose (1). He had been racing really well, having won four in a row including a terrific 30.19sec win at The Meadows, before finishing seventh in a much tougher race last start. Drawn ideally, I think he can hunt up early and prove very hard to beat.

Allen Impose’s main danger is Marvelous Marvin, who jumps from box seven. His first two starts back in Victoria after a West Australian campaign were sound, and while he had no luck last start he can bounce back tonight.

Among the other chances are Black Mumbo (2), and the Jeff Britton-trained pair Alpha Hermes (4) and Wise Harvey (5), with Why Not Les (7) a smaller hope.

FORMGUIDE

This is the middle distance feature of the evening, named after former GRV Chair, the late Jan Wilson, and I think the two greyhounds drawn widest will figure prominently. Hession Boots (7) flies here at Horsham and if he can get out quickly he will be very hard to run down.

His main danger is clearly Tambay Bale (8). She is dropping massively in grade, coming off a 4th in the Group 1 Superstayers final (725m) at The Meadows last Saturday night (Replay). She will get a cart over early and she should be strong at the end of the race.

The issue for mine is whether the 570m will be a little too short for her. Both Proven Scary (1) and West On Delly (2) will need luck from inside draws as they aren’t the best beginners, but if they are anywhere near the lead on the first turn they certainly are capable of figuring.
Smaller chances also to Bronco De Jurer (3) and Texas Titan (6).

This is a terrific race in terms of quality and I think the three drawn deepest will dominant. Fuelish (7) hasn’t had much luck since winning a heat of the Warragul Cup back in January. He should get a clear run, thus giving him a big chance to bounce back into the winner’s list.

Soda Man (8) is airborne at the moment. The drop back to 480m is a small concern but he flies early and, if he leads he is the one to beat.

Shared Bonus (6) I rate just behind the top two. He will need a shade of luck early, but he produced a much better run at The Meadows last start. A repeat of that performance will give him a strong winning hope.

Next best I have Elbow Room (1) and Smart Maxwell (5).

It is going to be a cracking night of racing and I hope this has helped steer you into a winner or two.
