Horses for Courses as New Owner wins Feature Race on Shepparton Cup Night

Suburban hobby trainer Allan Meyer experienced a proud moment when his greyhound Mick’s Angel took out the $5,000 Presidents Cup (650m) at Shepparton on Friday night.

This was one of six feature races conducted on an action packed Shepparton Cup card.

Mick’s Angel, a winner of four races from 15 starts, is raced by Meyer’s neighbour in Hoppers Crossing, first time owner Faye Craig, who inherited the greyhound from her late husband, Brian ‘Mick’ Craig.

“Faye has a background in horse racing and is still getting used to owning her first greyhound.”

“Like a lot of greyhound trainers I race my dogs about once a week, including Mick’s Angel, but she keeps telling me in jest that I should only be racing her once a month, because that’s how they do it in thoroughbred racing,” Meyer laughed.

The switch from a Sunday to a Friday night worked wonders for the Shepparton Cup, as locals made the most of the festivities on a perfect summer night.
