Last year’s Ready 2 Race Owners Reaping Early Rewards

The Ready 2 Race Auction Series at Bendigo has delivered some high class greyhounds in the four years since its inception but I don’t think it has ever produced a day like it did at Shepparton last Thursday. In what was a wonderful advertisement for the Ready to Race Auction, four of the 12 winners on the program at Shepparton were sold last year.

Whilst the winners at Shepparton might not go on to the heights of Kiss Me Ketut, Adam Handler and Cut Loose Max, they will certainly win more races and it goes to show that you don’t have to spend big money to find a talented greyhound.

The 1st of the quartet to win was Bernmar Striker in Race 1. Trained by Joe La Rosa he was purchased for only $1,300. Thursday at Shepparton was his fourth start and after his win he took his prizemoney to $640, so he has almost won back half his purchase price. A bargain buy it seems, as on his win Thursday he will win more races (Replay).

In Race 2 Miss Sim for Michael Chilcott was able to win her maiden at start five. She was purchased at the auction for $7,500 for one of the Croc Media syndicates. She looks like she has nice ability and it will certainly be interesting to see how she goes over the next few months. Her biggest asset is her early pace so you would think she will win more races (Replay).

Vintage Box was purchased at last year’s Auction in November for $10,750 by the Vacant Box Syndicate and was having his second career start on Thursday. He was luckless on debut when down the track but on Thursday he fired to the front, leading all the way. He still has a way to go to recoup his purchase price but he is on the winning board which he should take great confidence from (Replay).

The last of the fab four to win was Lemon Chicken for Mick Chilcott. Purchased for $3,750 he looks a bargain buy going on his 2 runs to date. A solid second on debut he took great benefit from that by winning easily on Thursday in the best time of the day as well. He should be winning more races and he looks the best greyhound out of the Auction so far, but it is only early days (Replay).

Since the Auction was held at the end of November last year there have been 14 individual runners, with six of them winning races. 11 of that 14 have been placed as well. So far the best performed greyhound has been Sisco Swift with two wins, but Scorching Fella won his only start in good style and should win more.

Below is a table of all the runners from last year’s Auction.
