The Meadows Saturday: Mepunga Greyhounds to Feature Prominently

It’s now time to preview the Saturday night program of greyhound racing at The Meadows with the first set to bounce at 7.15pm. The racing begins with a staying handicap with just the six starters. There’s no doubt Mepunga Tiara (pictured) carries the class edge and her form has been fantastic since gaining some continuity in the longer races. Facing a large drop in class I’m expecting a controlling all the way win from the seasoned campaigner.
.
The youngsters clash in the second race of the night chasing $5,000 to the winner in the maiden final. Invictus Rapid handled the squeeze alley in his impressive 30.26 debut (Replay) and with the advantage of the rails draw, he looks set to remain unbeaten at his second outing.
.
One of the features of the night comes up as the fifth race of the night with the restricted win final over the 525m. The race sports a tasty $12,000 winners cheque and also carries a staggering $11,000 GOBIS bonus, effectively taking first prize to $23,000. The field assembled seems extremely well matched but I’ve settled on Mepunga Treasure as my on top selection despite the awkward alley in which caused her trouble in her heat placing (Replay).
.
The other of the main events is the Topcat Video Cup at Group 3 level, in which Lady Toy appears set to bounce back into the winner’s list after a supreme run when placed from a mile back in her heat (Replay). I think from the inside alley she will have the speed to sit prominent and eventually go on to turn the tables on Seeking Justice from last week.
.
Racing is set to wrap up with the last at 11.02pm and I’ll be having a sneaky little each way bet Abscond, who has drawn to get a brilliant run in transit in the lucky last. Good luck and happy punting.

Watch: Mepunga Treasure (8) was bumped entering the back straight when placed in a heat at The Meadows last start. She is a good chance to redeem herself in tonight’s final.
