Sandown Park Preview: Speed Star Time Predictions

The fastest stars of greyhound racing collide as they go head to head, in never seen before racing at Sandown Park this Thursday night and its now time to preview this history making meeting. Add to that the beginning of the Melbourne Cup series and we are in for a greyhound racing treat!

The Speed Star will be conducted as the third race of the night with the four individual clashes running within half an hour.

The winner of each Match Race will win $10,000, while the greyhound with the fastest overall time will receive an additional $15,000 and be crowned the inaugural Speed Star King.

MATCH 1: Full On Bling $1.90 v Lamia Bale $1.90 (7:46pm)

The first of the greyhound matches see’s Full On Bling from box one taking on multiple group race winner Lamia Bale from box three. Full On Bling recently trialled a flying 29.15, with a run home almost unheard of, and I think he’ll only need to be within three to four lengths of Lamia Bale to mow her down in the first of four Speed Star battles.

MATCH 2: Dyna Yemen $4.80 v Smart Missile $1.18 (7:57pm)

The second Speed Star race is between Dyna Yemen (box 1) and Smart Missile (box 3). Despite Dyna Yemen coming off the Traralgon Cup final (Replay), it does appear a match race in which Smart Missile will prove too speedy. The Sydneysider qualified for the Speed Star with an electric 29.08 solo trial and if he can repeat a similar performance he may end up the outright winner.

MATCH 3: Texas Titan $2.45 v Caustic Bale $1.55 (8:07pm)

Texas Titan jumps from box one, taking on Caustic Bale, who set his PB of 29.21 over six months ago. Texas Titan trialled a slick 29.18 and carries some terrific recent form into this dual including a strong 34.41 Meadows win (Replay) at his last outing which should see him very hard to beat in this Speed Star clash.

MATCH 4: Kayda Shae $1.25 v Armed And Ready $4.00 (8:15pm)

The fourth and final match race contains the overall winner of the Speed Star for mine as Kayda Shae draws the rails against Armed And Ready. Kayda Shae (pictured with trainer Kelly Bravo) ran a superb second in the Healesville Cup (Replay) prior to posting a brilliant 29.12 solo trial at Sandown Park, which cemented his place in the Speed Star. With the aid of the inside I believe if he can retain the rails over Armed And Ready, and he will go on to win the overall Speed Star.

Here’s my overall Speed Star predictions.

Kayda Shae – 29.11

Smart Missile – 29.14

Full On Bling – 29.19

Texas Titan – 29.27

Lamia Bale – 29.33

Caustic Bale – 29.34

Dyna Yemen – 29.35

Armed And Ready – 29.42

My prediction is that only five lengths will separate the eight runners in the inaugural running of the Speed Star which is the purist form of this incredible sport.

With the Speed Star and the opening two preludes of the Melbourne Cup aside, I’m keen on Take The Crown who’s drawn alley two in race 11. This promising sprinter produced a fast 29.44 victory (Replay) at the venue and he’ll only need to shadow that to win again here.

This is the last of eleven race on what will be an extremely entertaining night of greyhound racing!
