Superstayers Invitational Preview: Joy for Toy?

Victorian trainer Brooke Ennis is hoping a smaller field will lead star stayer Lady Toy (pictured) to victory in tonight’s $37,000 Group Listed Superstayers Invitational (710m) at Albion Park at 8:45pm.

Limited to just four greyhounds, which effectively makes it a ‘shootout’ for stayers, the race has taken new shape with the scratching of the favourite, fellow Victorian Sweet It Is after it was announced yesterday that she had returned a positive swab to caffeine from her heat and final of the recent Group 1 Silver Collar in Auckland.

Lady Toy has firmed into a $2.50 second favourite behind last week’s Group 1 Gold Cup winner, the Sam Dart-trained Dzeko ($1.50), while Mullaway ($7.50) and reserve Cyndie’s Magic ($18.00) make up the field.

“She (Lady Toy) was disappointing in a heat of the (Group 1) Gold Cup in Brisbane recently but performed a bit better in the final last week. Hopefully the smaller field will help her tonight, and her chances have definitely been helped with the scratching of Sweet It Is,” Ennis said.

Boasting a first prize of $25,900, the Superstayers Invitational is scheduled to run at 8:45pm tonight.
