Metro Wrap: Sweet Fernando

Midweek Meadows racing on Wednesday was completely dominated  by the staggering training performance of Andrea Daily winning the first 8 races on the program. Along the way she was able to train a trifecta and quinella with her longest priced winner Zabimaru Bale saluting at $11.50.

Sandown Park on Thursday night was once again highlighted by the flying Fernando Bale who made it 10 straight wins on the way to winning the Group 3 Bill Collins. (Replay)

Sweet It Is was crowned the Sandown Cup winner again after a devastating win defending her title. After lobbing fourth with a lap to go, the superstar assumed control down the back straight and quite simply had the race in her hands a long way from home with Lady Toy and Love Affair filling the placings. (Replay)

The win in the Sandown Cup now takes her prize money to in excess of $825,000 now having her as Australia’s highest prize money earner. Trainer Braden Finn gave the indication that her next race will be over the Tasman in New Zealand in around a fortnight for a feature staying event.

Saturday at The Meadows was filled with finals throughout the night. The first of night, Vic-bred GRV to the City (Horsham) FINAL was won by Firecette, who gunned down the tear away leader Triple Lindy with a strong railing win in 30.43. (Replay)

The Horsham to City middle distance was won by the Michael Chillcott prepared Beau Mambo. After retaining the inside running early, he swept clear and safely held Seeking Justice who flew home to grab second in an overall time of 34.80. (Replay)

The extremely classy Dewana Result racked up a super win in the Grade 5 final with the Dewan family training first and third with Dewana Hitman holding on the the minor money. I thought the win of Dewana Result was as impressive as I’ve seen from this chaser as he burnt down the outside early, working to the first bend but yet still reeled off a flying 11.99 run home to dominate the final (Replay). Dewana Result has been a greyhound that has promised so much and it looks as if now he’s putting it all together.

Xtreme Knocka arrived in the lead at the home corner going on to win the 600m Grade 5 final in 34.65 for Jason Thompson. Through the night there were 3 heats of the 600m Grade 5 with some impressive wins to Secret Spell in 34.42, Emrys 34.50 and also Humming Birdhill in 34.62.

This wraps up yet another great week of metro racing. Let next weeks racing begin!
